Peace March in Pakistan - Experience of Irshad Ahmed

Irshad_on_road_2

Dear Friends,

Peace March reached safe and sound at destination at 6.30PM at the tomb of Allama Iqbal under the heavy policy security. Around 40 people walked on foot. In two days around 70-to 80 KM was covered.
The person with black coat Sayyed Azhar Hussin Shah (representative of lawyers and Walk Organizer with us): people with red flags and belcha were activists of Khaksar (political party); remaining people without specific uniform were humanists and from IEDF and civil society.

The March started from District Court Gujranwal. Around 500 people gathered together with press to kick off the march. They also offered lunch at 12.30 am. The March started late and reached around 8 PM in Kamoki. Throughout the March, police guard was with us. Intelligence agencies closed watched all movements. But they didn't disturb us because we were peaceful. All people participated in the March completed except one female lawyers couldn't complete it due to family problem.
A loudspeaker was used throughout the route by Khaksar to tell about the March. it was peaceful throughout without any violence, relief for police and security agency but surprising for citizens to walk so long and without violence. Few people on the road offered juice, cold water and food. Otherwise, we beared ourselves. In Kamoki we stayed in the School "The Educator". The owner of Educator was friend of Anees Ahmad Khan Lodhi (Humanist).

Personal Feelings:
As a Humanist, this was my first active non violence experience. I walked all around on foot with this group. I get several foot injuries and sole in my foot and was unable to stand at home. It was really hot around . Temperature started from 38 and rose at 3pm to around 42 degrees. Road was very hot and marchers needed to stop after every five to six KM. Finally we reached in the Tomb of Iqbal where Mr.Azhar from Lawyers group, Mr. Sadiq (head of Khaksar) and Irshad Ahmad addressed people, explaining the purpose of the March and to thank the people for their kind support. I am sending pictures and short move for sharing.
Overall experience was very good, tough and exciting.

We hope for peace throughout the world.

Regards.

Irshad Ahmed
